At My Wit’s End
One of my closest friends is falling for Donald Trump’s disinformation. His life hangs in the balance.

This will be a very quick rant.
I’m at my wit’s end.
I just got off the phone with a dear buddy. He is a proud military vet, and the most optimistic person I know. He is also a de facto member of my family, works his ass off as a professional bail enforcement agent, and is just an all-around great guy.
He runs a charity dedicated to building arts organizations in impoverished cities, and has an immense heart befitting his 6'4" frame.
“I heard the Covid-19 numbers are false,” he said. “The CDC is mixing those numbers with the flu to make it look like the death toll is higher.”
I went off. Felt bad after, but totally lost my temper.
Yesterday, according to multiple sources, the Trump administration blocked CDC reopening guidelines. Trump is SUPPRESSING the guidelines, and disseminating disinformation in favor of reopening the country his way.
My friend is smart. But he’s getting caught up like so many others in the hopes of a return to normalcy. This is exactly what happens that causes good people to go outdoors, mingle and shop without masks and gloves.
He works a dangerous job, my friend does. He implied he was ready to resume his work without protection.
I lost my cool, as this madness has already been impacting friends.
I’ve lost someone I’ve known for over 30 years to this illness, and several other old pals are in the midst of that battle now.
If anything happens to this guy, it will be tough to cope.
Estimates are 3000 U.S. residents will die daily by June. The country is not yet ready to reopen, and there should have been a national lockdown order from the beginning.
I’m beyond furious right now. My friend is not a Donald Trump sycophant. He should not be falling for such rampant disinformation.
He’s a good man who needs support.
This punctuates to me that we’re in really dangerous waters right now.
