Honor Justice Ginsburg’s Final Wish Today: Contact Your Senators From This Directory
The Honorable Ruth Bader Ginsburg passed on September 18, 2020.
This piece will be posted the day after.
According to her granddaughter, Clara Spera, Ginsburg dictated the following from her deathbed: “My most fervent wish is that I will not be replaced until a new president is installed.”
Barely an hour following the announcement of her passing, the office of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell sent this press release to global media outlets:
The final sentence of McConnell’s official statement?
President Trump’s nominee will receive a vote on the floor of the United States Senate.
Shortly thereafter, the President of the United States issued his expected statement, via Twitter:
Whether the Senate will have the votes to comply with McConnell and Trump is questionable, as several GOP senators said they will vote to hold off until the election.
Greater minds, however, have been changed before.
