I Realized Medium Was Insulting its Writers When This Started Happening Repeatedly on NewsBreak

Medium is effective for marketing, and no longer for earning a respectable income. Until more than a scant percentage of writers here earn more than $100 monthly… it’s a slap in the face.

This has been a long time coming.

This platform needs to step up, as writers are not indentured servants.

I’ve touted the virtues of Medium frequently over the last few years. I’ve promoted the platform on my social media as a terrific place for aspiring writers to ply their trade.

No longer. I’d be lying to myself, and to you.

For those of you who have once written for and now condemn NewsBreak for removing their once-automatic $1000 monthly payouts, you’ve taken it wrong and ignored a terrific opportunity.

They had the money. They paid out. Then they stopped, and toyed with their payout system and other algorithmic processes to where they are today.

Medium does the same.

BUT … NewsBreak had the money for that guarantee; that much was clear. And, they made those payouts, regardless of the amount of article reads during those early days.

Today, I’m earning several times more than that initial $1000 guarantee, every month, for electing to publish on their site with no excuses. For me, the best thing they did was lose that guarantee, which in effect forced further effort on the part of their writers.

Many writers resented the loss of that easy money, which was a mistake.

I took the challenge.

My current average monthly dollar amount from NewsBreak I will keep to myself, as there is far too much boasting here, though I remain perfectly happy with those mid-month auto-pays.
