Lorie and I were together for nearly 24 wonderful years and married for nearly 23. We had a “once in a lifetime love affair,” as she liked to say.

Our marriage wasn’t perfect and in some ways it was unconventional, but if ever two people were suited for one another it was us.

When Lorie unexpectedly passed away on November 26th of last year due to complications arising from the bursting of an undetected aneurysm, my world was upended.

I had suddenly lost the woman I loved, my soulmate, taken from me in an indefinable act of cruelty.

How could I possibly survive without her?

I was right, I thought, there is no God.

The first five months of Lorie’s passing were as brutal as the immediate aftermath. The night Lorie died, I had to prepare funeral arrangements for four days later…
