Liberty’s Last Gasp
Silence is Complicity, and now is not the time to mince words.
We are losing the battle of liberty.
The growing perception of a loss of personal freedom due to state lockdown procedures, enacted to save lives, is selfish as well as desperate, and not worth innocent human lives.
I don’t give a damn about your workout or your bowling game. Cut your own nails and make your own food. Non-essential employees forced to return to work over business owners’ pressure to “reopen the economy” — as that misleading term is commonly used of late — is life-endangering, and there is no insurance company that would consider otherwise.
Our incoming perfect storm consists, in part, of the following quadrangle influenced by Covid 19:

2020, so far, has been a living hell … but 2021 can represent the beginning of a great resurgence if we’re smart.
Michigan as a Protest Model
I’ve expended a great amount of ink of late to the recent Michigan protests.
From the latest of my stories to the oldest …
Then, earlier this week, this happened:
The three images above are not from a movie. Once again, armed protestors stormed Michigan’s Capitol … in effect taking over a house of government to demand that all of us return to work in the midst of a pandemic.
Words from my friend Thomas Fortenberry, well expressed.
To make matters worse if that’s possible, as you see not all of the unhinged wore masks.
Wearing camo, in some instances with American flags draped on their backs, is little more than attention-getting Halloween shtick.
I refer to Michigan as a protest model as indeed similar protests are springing up nationally, though perhaps not to this level of threat.
Today in Orange County, California, Governor Newsom announced the re-closure of city beaches. Protestors carrying Trump-Pence 2020 signs, and most not wearing masks or socially distancing, lambasted the governor for his decision … which was based on unsafe behavior when the beaches were reopened days ago.
The economy will only dip further the longer these protests continue, as such unsafe behaviors will continue to take lives.
Desperation is meaningful. We all must eat. For now, creditors are being largely cooperative, stimulus checks have been received by some and the rest are forthcoming, unemployment claims are slowly being paid for. We can survive this while maintaining life-saving safeguards.
As for Michigan, the questions are these: Are we going to confront a de facto Civil War if Donald Trump loses the election? Has the state already ignited that spark?
The implication is most of the protestors do appear to be staunch supporters of our current President.
As science fiction or alarmist as the questions may appear to some, glance again at the photos.
Fools are those who ignore visible and increasing threats of domestic terror.
The Re-Election Campaign of Donald Trump
The title of this article says it all, and is a substantial collection of pieces regarding Trump’s impact around the globe:
Trump is in a position where rapid dog-whistling to his most extreme base has given the impression he can do no wrong. And he plays precisely to that extreme. He knows many are desperate today due to lack of work, and while he agrees with Doctors Birx and Fauci during task force conferences, he often tweets the opposite of his words hours later to placate those supporters who are suffering.
As a result of a disastrously inconsistent response to the current pandemic, by tomorrow evening over 70,000 Americans will have died of Covid-19 complications, with the body count increasing in the thousands daily.
As Jared Kushner congratulates the Trump administration for their masterful handling of the calamity, experts plea on television that we are not yet ready to resume life as anything resembling what was once normal.
Joseph Biden vs. Tara Reade
If Joe Biden is found guilty, he should drop out of the election. If Joe Biden is found not guilty, then all bets are off.
However, there will be no trial. He will run, and perhaps he should as in this country — at least to now — an individual is innocent until proven guilty. Reade has been inconsistent with her charge, and many question the timing as Biden has been in public service for years. Numerous outlets, including the New York Times, have undertaken investigations of their own and have come up empty.
Still, we must take the accusation seriously, as we had with Brett Kavanaugh, Harvey Weinstein, Bill Cosby and others. Otherwise, what kind of message are we sending to women?
At least 17 women have accused Trump of sexual misconduct; he’s denied each and every one and wiped his hands of any controversy. He also openly admitted his guilt to Billy Bush, in his infamous “grab em by the pussy” rant, and yet he won the election.
So is this our “Sophie’s Choice” moment?
I personally do not believe Ms. Reade, but I also do not know for certain. Most of us only know Biden as an image, not the real person. I work in the film and TV business; image rarely matches reality.
But personally, I admit, I believe Joe in this regard, and am voting for him.
Yet if I’m wrong … my vote is going to the lesser of two deviants, and that’s a hell of a thing to ponder.
Women deserve better, and the rest of us need to fight alongside them.
Election Day
If Donald Trump loses, I sincerely expect an immediate increase in violence before things settle.
If Donald Trump wins … we will receive exactly what we deserve.
We need to be smart.
We need to get smart.
