Michigan Protestors, Your Discomfort Does not Equate to Jews Killed in Nazi Germany
Comparing your plight to victims of Nazi Germany insults those who have died, and survived. The rest may prove personally lethal.
On April 15, 2020, thousands of men, women, and children from the great state of Michigan attended the so-called “Day of Gridlock” and compared Governor Whitmer’s stay at home order to “Nazi Germany.”
Well son of a bitch.
Allow me, then, to compare Lansing, Michigan, the location of yesterday’s shenanigans, with Nazi Germany.
During the Holocaust, many of those forced to isolate did not have the security of houses in which to shelter. Nor could they go home to their apartments if they wanted to remain safe.
Nor even a homeless shelter.
They did not have the benefit of remaining occupied with cell phones, computers, or streaming video.
No, an uncomfortably large number of those Jews and others persecuted in the era of (the real) Nazi Germany spent not days, but sometimes months and sometimes even longer in cellars, in basements (if fortunate), even in closets.
They were hiding.
They could not travel to Costco with a mask if they needed food. Nor anywhere else without the risk of being shot.
Many of them remained hidden in truly claustrophobic quarters, hoping and praying for a next meal.
I won’t mince words here. To the idiots who risked lives yesterday, we all need money to survive.
I‘ll give you credit for one thing, though. I’ll go so far as to state that the reasons you cannot wait to return to work are laudable. Many of you have families. You have to eat. We’re in a quagmire now and trying to figure it out. I get that panic is setting in and many are worried about going hungry. It’s not that you all want to work for work’s sake, necessarily, it’s that you need to work.
Understood.
But damn each and every one of you who is still fortunate to have a roof, food, and gas money, who protested yesterday calling the situation a return to Nazi Germany while handing out candy and propaganda to kids likewise not wearing masks, waving confederate flags, and in some instances pointing guns out car windows.
Besides, do you have any idea how many emergency aid services you blocked yesterday?
Your effort was a charade. You insult every man and woman who perished in “Nazi Germany,” and every man and woman who survived, because you cannot bear to stay inside for a few days or weeks and save lives in the process.
Here’s a Nazi Germany anecdote for you: Anne Frank was a Jewish teenager who also missed the outside world, and had no choice but to remain inside. She hid with her family in an attic for 761 days behind the office of a family-owned business in Amsterdam, whose employees provided food and news of the day. The family was found in 1944, and sent to concentration camps.
Anne died at 15 years of age.
Those of you responsible for making the the comparison yesterday have indeed proven that ignorance is bliss.
And further, you insult every man and woman who have lost their lives to Covid-19, and those who are still fighting.
