The Grave Illogic of Captain Donald J. Trump’s Covid Bill of Goods
Where flawed psychology meets misguided patriotism
I will attempt to proceed in such a way that will be balanced, though my anti-Trump leanings will nonetheless seep through.
Of that I am certain.
When staunch Trump supporters hear no mention of “co-morbidities” in the stats of Covid-related deaths from the “liberal media,” many have taken to social media to express their beliefs that deaths from Covid as a direct or sole cause are in reality up to 99% lower than reported.
For example, did the flu kill your friend or was it the pneumonia that happened as a result? Did liver damage kill your relative or was the death due to the multiple organ failure that ensued?
Which organ was responsible, then, and shouldn’t that be listed on the death certificate as the true cause?
When these staunch supporters listen to Trump, then, and consider only the older Herman Cain has died from his circle, they believe masks and social distancing are more hype than anything, and point out misleading H1-N1 “facts” as “proof” that Covid itself is a scam and the real issue are those co-morbidities.
Because, of course, Obama.
The point is to a very large cross-section of the country Covid is not perceived as a killer. To them, Covid only pushes existing severe illnesses or latencies over the top.
This is a large part of our country’s conflict. The only way to win the battle, which is largely heading in the direction of herd immunity, is for scientists to directly and regularly also address this assumed co-morbiditiy equation. It may be pandering, but absolutely nothing will change otherwise. Nothing may change anyway at this point, but there is always a small chance.
Whether the percentage of Trump supporters today is 35% or 40% or more of the country is meaningful. That’s a hell of a large group. If never-Trumpers accuse his supporters of getting the rest of us sick, they in turn would largely feel justified to defensively retort any precaution taken is b.s. and an affront to their “civil liberties.”
Because no one bothered to address their sincere concerns.

The fly in their ointment, though, is the implication they are fine with a virus subsequently amplifying a co-morbidity … as long as the politicized virus itself is not considered among the direct causes of death.
Similar to “Don’t wear a mask as God will take care if us,” and yet those who say it carry guns to take care of themselves.
Illogic, all around, the gravity of which may well snuff hundreds of thousands more lives by the time all is said and done. If not from the disease alone, then the violence expected to emanate post-Election Day as a result of America the Divided.
